Dear Journal,
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I can’t even remember the last time I wrote in you. A few years maybe? Guess I’ve got quite a bit of catching up to do. Might as well start where I left off from my last entry.
Not too much has changed if I’m going to be honest with you. I’m still working on the farms with the Ceres. Ma, Pa, and Austin are all still ok. I’m luckier than most. None of my family’s gotten the Rot. Maybe we’re all immune. I hope so anyways. Honestly I try not to think about it too much. I’m worried, Journal. I’m always worried. About Ma, or Pa, or Austin. I don’t want to lose them. It would devastate me. But I don’t want to dwell on it too much and only give you my depressing thoughts.
Austin’s grow a bunch. He looks so much like Pa now! All big and bulky. The girls love him. He got himself a girlfriend now. Imagine that, my little brother having his own gal. They’re been together for years now. I honestly think they might go the distance, but I don’t tell him that. I don’t want to jinx it.
Speaking of growing, I should tell you I’ve grown too. I got something of a growth spurt a while ago. Now I’m hitting 5’10” and just barely managed to top Ma. Austin and Pa still beat me, but I’m fine with that. I look a lot more like Ma now back when she was my age. I’m glad: Ma was always real pretty. She still is. I just hope I can look anywhere near as good now and when I get on in my years.
I’m still working with the animals, although now I moved to a different farm. Still, the animals seem to like me. Pa always said I had a way with them, but I don’t think I’m anything special. I just love animals and love working with them Speaking of which, Pa let me keep Beau. She's a lovely Shire and just the sweetest thing, even if she is bigger than me by a lot! I'm glad I have her with me though. She reminds me of the family every time I look at her.
I guess I should mention I got myself a new machete. Luckily I’ve only had to use it once so far, and even then it was only to cut off some wool from a sheep that got stuck in some fencing. I really hope I won’t ever have to use it for anything worse, but you never know.
Anyways, I think that’s about it. Not much else to tell you, Journal. Sorry I haven’t written in you much. It’s been ages since my last entry. I’ll write in you more often when I get done with work, I swear. I don’t want to make any excuses. There may be a few nights where I simply don’t have the time, but I promise I will try. So until next time.
