Celia smiled as he took her arm, the feeling of warmth spreading from where his hand touched her all the way up her arm. She couldn’t help but remember the first time he had touched her, offering to lead her into a feast or a ball she couldn’t remember what, but his touch had been so familiar as it was now. As they walked and he told her of all that was going on, her smile fell and her face took on the look of great concern. There would be many who would die today and many who would be killed later. Even they were not safe within the castle walls; not that Arthur would remain locked behind stone and she knew it. If he was going to go out to battle to meet the enemy then he would do so leading his men from the front.
“They love thee too my lord husband, and they shall not resent thee since it is not thy desire for power or land that causes this war; but for the desire to protect it. They wish for the same as thee, to be free of this enemy.” No those whose lives they ruled over would not be angry with Arthur he wasn’t fighting for power and gain, he was fighting to save their way of live. Just like all those that were willing to take up the sword was going to do.
Deciding on changing the subject Arthur stopped and looked her straight in the eye, removing a piece of straw form her hair before asking what she had been up to. The problem was she knew he wouldn’t’ enjoy hearing everything she had been up to. Not only had she seen to the needs of he castle and the people within the walls, but she had gone to the blacksmith and seen to a suit of armor that she had ordered to be made for herself and as well as a sword. Of course she had to swear him to not tell anyone, though she had no doubt that Arthur would sooner or later find out the truth; though part of her hoped it wouldn’t be until it was far too late for him to do anything. The suite was already most done however, as well as the sword and dagger. All that was left was a breast plate and shield. “Nothing to much, just this and that.” She answered picking the piece of straw from his hand and tossing it to side in order to avoid his gaze.
