Dexter had some business to attend to that didn't require Sawyer's presence so the nineteen year old spent the day in the city the only way she knew how. By drinking.
Sure, it was three in the afternoon and most of the pubs weren't even opened yet but she knew her way around town fairly well and soon enough, she walked through the bar whose bartender immediately recognised her. Giving her a two finger salute, the bartender started to pour out her favourite drink.
"Whiskey!" She called out to the bartender who just so happened to be pouring out exactly that. "Hey sugar. Just arrived? Where's Pops?" Whiskey asked, sliding the tumbler across the bar just as Sawyer sat down on one of them empty stools.
She shrugged happily and took a sip from her tumbler, humming her approval. "I have missed thee. What's new in town?" She asked the bartender who also shrugged. "Same old. Not much has changed since the last week you came back." He grinned wryly before attending to another customer, leaving Sawyer alone to enjoy her drink. She looked around the bar, surveying the thin crowd before going back to her tumbler. "So good." She did a little shiver in her stool.
Kat made her way to one of the few bars she knew to be open this early. She'd just woken up an hour earlier after a long night and she needed something to help her forget it quickly. The money had been good though, so she wasn't too aggravated. Still, the woman had left marks that wouldn't heal for a few weeks... Luckily some customers were into that.
She made her way over to the bar and ordered a tequila as she sat down near a young woman who looked to be around her daughter's age... She had to stop thinking about that. Kat knew she was foolish for lingering on the one she'd left behind, but part of her couldn't help the gentle smile that crossed her face at the young girl's energy. If this girl was so energetic and happy it gave her hope for her own.
Kat smiled as the girl seemed to shiver from the whiskey, "You sure you're not a bit young for that?" she asked with a teasing smile, the warmth in her eyes genuine. She would allow herself this small weakness, after all she wouldn't likely ever see the girl again after they left the bar, so what could it hurt?

Sawyer had noticed the older woman coming in but she hadn't thought of her sitting down next to her. The question annoyed her but she kept a smile on her face and shrugged. "Keep it on the downlow. Whiskey doesn't know how young I am." She whispered, though loud enough that the bartender grinned.
She turned to face the woman and was struck by how flawlessly beautiful the woman was. Not to mention how sexy as all hell she was too. "Wow." She breathed before grinning wider. "You're really beautiful, lady."
Kat chuckled at the girl's response and nodded, "Your secret's safe with me," she offered as she downed her own glass and asked for another. Kat felt the familiar tinge of grief and loss as she always did around girls close to Selina's age, but she ignored it. Tonight wasn't a night for dwelling on the past.
Kat grinned at the girl's compliment and nodded to her, "Thanks, you're quite lovely yourself," she responded truthfully. Kat absently wondered if the bartender would make a good customer, but she kept her thoughts to herself. Looking for new clients was just habitual at this point, and he had a regular income, which was better than many could say in the city. "Seems there might be some hope for this city yet," Kat added with a wry smirk as she took another drink.

"Good woman." She chuckled briefly before beaming at the older woman. "Oh thank you! You don't have to be so nice. I know I look a mess." And she sort of did. She still had soot covering her face and baggy clothes. She needed to ask Dexter to help her buy something a lot less...manlier for her to wear. Their last bounty got them a pretty penny so she didn't think a splurge would put any dent to their finance.
This woman, however, was exquisite. Even by a city dweller's standard she looked above and beyond. She must be a higher up. Or at the very least hung out with the richer bunch. While she was still covered in grime and dust and soot from spending weeks battling climate changes to catch just one person.
"I'm Sawyer!" She introduced herself, reaching out her hand before finding it to be a little on the greasy, blackened side. She pulled her hand back and wiped it on her ratty bomber jacket, giving the other woman a bright smile instead.
"I meant every word," Katerina replied with warmth in her tone, "You have very striking eyes, and with the way your face lights up when you smile, I'm sure you've turned quite a few heads," she added with the honesty of a mother who no longer had a daughter of her own to spoil. It was her own fault, but Kat couldn't help the longing that occasionally still made itself known to her, no matter how hard she tried to suppress it.
This girl could clean up quite prettily if she wanted to, of that Kat was positive. Kat smiled at Sawyer's introduction and reached out her own hand but paused as Sawyer suddenly pulled back. Kat's glance flicked down to her wrists, relieved when she saw that the long sleeves were still doing an adequate job of hiding her bruises. She then looked back at Sawyer and her smile widened as she saw the girl brush her hand off against her jacket and understood what was going on.
"I'm Kat," she replied, her eyes dancing with friendly amusement. "And trust me, I'm no stranger to dust and grease," she offered with a light laugh. If only Sawyer knew... Kat almost grimaced at the thought. If Sawyer knew, she'd probably be pulling away for an entirely different reason. Kat had seen it before far too many times. "Speaking of, you've been outside the city recently?" she asked in curiosity, also to change the subject.

Sawyer turned to look at the older woman briefly before hiding her smile in her drink. She knew there were certain attributes to her physical appearance that appealed to people but she couldn't ever compare herself to the woman beside her. "I bet you turn a few more." She quipped with a small smirk.
She chuckled before grinning sheepishly in the other woman's direction at basically being caught. "But you look so nice, I didn't want to get it all over you." Sawyer responded before her eyebrows furrowed slightly at the question.
"Oh, yeah. I'm not exactly from around here." She answered with a smile. "I uh...my partner and I kinda...wander."
Katerina chuckled and nodded to Sawyer, "Why thank you," she replied with a slightly amused smile as she took another shot. Fitting into the conventional standards of beauty was a definite boon in her line of business.
"Thanks for the consideration," she offered sincerely, if formally. Kat was still awkward around girls Selina's age, even as she found herself drawn to them. Besides, it was awfully sweet of Sawyer to be concerned about something Kat probably wouldn't have even considered.
"Partner?" she asked in mild interest. She certainly wouldn't pry if the girl didn't feel comfortable talking about them, but Kat was curious. Kat was also relieved to hear that Sawyer didn't wander alone. Two had a much higher chance of surviving in this wasteland, regardless of how strong or tough this girl might be.
