For some time, Luxanna had seemed sure that Carter did move for the sound of his own voice. After all, he had never been shy of his own arrogance. He was self-absorbed and conceited, because he felt as if he had every right to be. Why not be proud of one's own skills when everything was so successful?
But it was true; he did always have a point to his own words. Being business minded meant he was always searching for something. Carter tilted his head to the side instinctively; it would have been easy to answer, but he so rarely made anything easy.
"You think I have anything but a genuine motive?" He asked her, curiosity colouring his light eyes as he searched her expression; "Would it be so wrong to admit that I might miss you?"
She wasn't entirely certain why she didn't believe him. In truth, she knew he wasn't nearly as bad as she'd first thought when she met him. He had changed her view on him, so why, why was she doubting all of this now?
Biting her bottom lip, the brunette cast her eyes down and shrugged. "I don't know," she replied with a sigh. This was all so overly confusing. She took a step to the side and leaned her shoulder against the nearby wall in the small hallway.
"Why now?" she asked, lifting her green eyes so she could look at him properly for the first time today.

Carter already knew there was difficulty in trust when it came to either of the twins. Even in business, they obviously skirted the facts to get what they wanted. The ability to craft the most perfect, believable lie and stick to it was a concept that suited him and his brother. At face value, she had every reason not to believe him.
But he wasn't a stranger. He carried weight with her, he was sure.
A hand pressed to the wall she leaned against, extended to allow him to lean against it. It meant he was a little closer without the need being so overwhelmingly obvious. Point was, he was in reach.
"Why not?" He asked, genuinely, "There's never a perfect time for anything. Everything seems to change on a whim, so why can't we?"
