what's yours?
For a moment, the brunette sat completely still. The only sign that she was still alive was the slow rising at her chest. Her eyes stared off into the distance, looking to the endless wasteland seen in the distance from te window. Then her eyes flicked back to life and she tilted her head, her lips pursing.
"Sorry," she replied sheepishly as she shrugged her shoulders. "Not sure where my mind went there. Did you ask me something?"
"Err, yes. You're married?"
A sheepish smile formed on the brunette's lips and she nodded. "I am," she says, shrugging. "His name is Trevor." She looked toward the window again, but her smile didn't falter. Instead, it warmed somewhat. "I'm not sure how to feel about that," she said finally and laughed.
"What do you mean?"
"It wasn't exactly my idea," she began. "It's an arranged marriage." Before the other person could interrupt, she raised her hand, shaking her head. "I know it's old fashioned, but..." she trailed off, once again shrugging. "I could have done worse." Her husband was... Well, a very influential man. She'd known him for a while now too - or rather, known of him. They hadn't really talked until now. Not really.
"When did it happen?"
"Just recently," she said and looked back towards the person in front of her. "We're about to start the process of moving in together and... Dealing." She wasn't entirely sure how to feel about all of this, and she wasn't even sure the two of them had anything in common. "It is what it is." In fact, she found her husband both incredibly handsome and intriguing, but if anyone had asked her, really asked, she wasn't sure if she could say that's who she would have picked. It was all very confusing.
"Your mother is part of the council..."
The brunette perked her head up and nodded. "Yeah," she said. "She is. She's also a very influential woman." She smile sadly, but as quickly as it appeared, it vanished.
"And your father?"
"He died when I was little. He'd gotten infected when I turned four and died a few months later." She looked away at that. She didn't enjoy thinking about her father. She might not have known him or remembered much about him, but it still pained her. It was all part of this world now, though. At least she had one parent left, even if they didn't exactly get along. "I don't really... Remember much of him."
"Lets move on then... What do you do?"
Her smile returned then and she leaned forward in her chair. She was passionate about her job. She enjoyed making a difference - or trying to. "I'm training to become a doctor. Or rather, I am a doctor. It's very... Giving." She couldn't help but to smile at that. She really enjoyed helping others. She wasn't keen on the blood or seeing people hurt, but it was just one of those things...
"I see. Doctors are needed."
"They are," she said, nodding in agreement. "We have far too few of them and we're packed. Our days are long and there's so many people who require our help..." she trailed off again and sighed. A knock on the door had her head turning and it opened slightly, a familiar face poking in. "Dr. Paige," the person outside said awkwardly, smiling sheepishly. "You're needed at the hospital."BEHIND THE MASK...
